A Special Note From Jaz
Ms. Seneca Dunmore ladies and gentleman.
I met Seneca when I went to a networking event. She had on this black dress with these big flared shoulders and this huge blonde beehive. When I got closer I just couldn’t help myself and had to say hello beautiful and I asked her what she did.
As we began our conversation God revealed to me to share my podcast show with her and ask her to be a guest. I can honestly say I was nervous because I just started the show and sometimes it takes courage to speak to people and combat the tricks of the enemy of any fear or intimidation. Queens support Queens and I am so much in awe to sit back and watch her story unfold. God has really been moving in her life in spite of past adversity. I love her smile. She encourages me every day I see her posts in vintage dresses and church hats! Go head pint-size powerhouse!
I love you!
What is the challenge you faced before God pressed the reset button?
What obstacle did you overcome/testimony? What was the pivotal moment in your life thus far that changed everything?
Houston native completing her doctorate at Texas State University(TSU), Seneca Dunmore has been prejudged based on her petite frame and although most people think she probably has a healthy diet and great workout regimen she has struggled with health and digestive issues for over a decade.
It started when she was finishing her freshman year at TSU and at dinner with a friend she felt uncomfortably full. She went back to her dorm and felt that her stomach was ripping.
When she went home for Christmas her father was horrified because she went from 120lbs to 80lbs in a matter of two months.
She went from doctor to doctor and no one could give her an answer. In January 2005, she went in for an outpatient procedure. It was supposed to be a very simple procedure, an endoscopy. They went into dilate her esophagus but they ended up rupturing it. it went HORRIBLY WRONG!
She began bleeding internally and the doctors had to rush her into surgery immediately.
She woke up in the ICU and was blind for the first three days! On the fourth day when she was moved into her own room she finally regained her sight. A total of 9 days in the hospital. Which were the hardest 9 days of her life!
When the surgeon released her from the hospital they advised her to drop out of school because she wouldn’t be able to keep up with the other students.
Against their orders 3 weeks later she returned to school and made a 4.0 that semester!
GOOD IS GOOD! AMEN!
She faced additional health issues afterward realizing that being underweight has its issues too. She was very underweight and struggled with body image issues and people would tease her for being so small. She hated it because she was never a small girl and she had to get used to her current frame. She had to get used to people and their “assumptions.”
A few years ago she joined the women’s ministry at her church and it was her very first time giving her testimony.
It was the most liberating experience because she finally came to terms with is and finally accepted the fact that she was a small girl and if this is how God wanted her to be then that was how it was going to be. She didn’t fight with it anymore.
As she began to share her testimony with other women she realized that she was NOT THE ONLY ONE GOING THROUGH SOMETHING!
Liberation. YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT TOO!
It’s a reminder of how GOOD GOD HAS BEEN to her to bring her to something and THROUGH IT!
DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER!
How has that shown you the path God has prepared for your life? Steps along your journey.
She began to take a class at church called Spiritual Gifts, an 8-week course that shows you what your spiritual gifts are. She found out her tops gifts were Leadership, Exhortation(Encouragement) & Compassion (Bethel’s Global Reach for Medical Missions).
She was also a part of the Women’s Ministry at her church called, Women of Worship. A 10-month program, that was very intensive and required her to be there very Sunday to study the Bible. The first 6 months, the instructors teach the class and the remaining 4 months the students get to teach. She was first, and her lesson was on PEACE.
She spoke from the book of Job and how God allowed the devil to take everything away from him. His health, family, wealth and NEVER did Job curse God. He questioned God, but never did he curse HIM. He continued to praise and worship God and at the end because of his obedience God restored Job. His health, family, children, more wealth were all given to Job because of his obedience to God.
After she taught the lesson the women’s ministry director approached her and said she had the gift of teaching. She was not a teacher at this time.
The director approached her again inviting her to be a teacher for the women’s ministry. She prayed about it and realized she never wanted to be a teacher. She accepted the offer because when she did pray she felt God telling her yes this is what I want you to do, go ahead and try it.
She absolutely loves teaching!
When she teaches she feels like I can’t believe they pay me to do this because it’s so natural and comes so easy for her.
All of her spiritual gifts are coming together and she knows, this is what God has called her to do!
Can you share your favorite scripture?
2 Corinthians 12:9 [NKJV]
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
“Sometimes God will allow you to go through certain things because He’s trying to pull something GREATER out of you!”
What do you do daily to let your light shine?
“Daily mantras. I’ll record my own voice talking to myself. Seneca, you’re beautiful. Seneca, you’re powerful. Seneca, you have everything that you need to be successful. You are a child of God. Walk in your purpose. Today is going to be a good day. Everything that you want is already at your disposal. Be confident. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
I record those things and listen to them every day. I’m also a huge advocate of meditation and visualization. I sit and meditate on where I want to be in life. I visualize on the beautiful home, the beautiful family, nice car, the great health. My family doing well, living in a beautiful place with beautiful trees and water. I visualize all those things in my mind and meditate on that in the morning. I believe that if I give out that type of ev=nergy then that’s the type of energy that I will draw in as well.
I also do other things like compliment people on a daily basis. I love your dress. Your hair looks great I believe in speaking life and speaking power and encouragement over people’s lives.
It doesn’t cost you anything to be nice to people!”
Name (3) things that you would tell your younger self?
- Stop procrastinating. (You’ll never know until you get started)
- Temporary failure is not permanent defeat. (I might just need to try again. You need to keep going.)
- Les Brown says, “People’s opinion of you does not have to become your permanent reality.” (I don’t have to accept that or live that out, especially if it does not define me)
As you get older you worry less about what people think and you just learn how to LIVE! Just do YOU!
Why do you love you some you? What makes you extraordinary?
“I have very magnetic energy. I want them[people] to feel better from leaving my presence.”

I would say don’t let the way you perceive, the way people perceive you, silence your voice. You have a voice, you should use that voice and not let people silence that.
