009 || Resetting Your Journey || Cheryle T. Ricks

This week’s episode features, Ms. Cheryle T. Ricks of The Sister Empowerment Circle, LLC.
Cheryle T. Ricks is the President, Founder & CEO of The Sister Empowerment Circle, LLC. Further, she is a mother of four, the grandmother of six, a published author, a poet, a motivational speaker, an Evangelist, a paralegal and a minister at Faith Church Baltimore in Baltimore Maryland.
Cheryle has allowed God to heal her soul. She has spent many years ministering to women at different stages of their lives with the sole purpose of helping them see their value and worth by teaching them how to receive real love, in spite of the abuse or the circumstances that they have been through. As a woman who has experienced abuse and no self-esteem herself, she understands the importance of having the appropriate validation every woman needs. Her insight enables women to get to the root cause for the emptiness that many women feel by helping them see the reality of their realities. Cheryle has learned through her relationship with God that there is nothing that can disqualify anyone from having the life that Jesus Christ died for all of us to have. Motivated by the love of God, Cheryle shows women how to receive healing and restoration by taking the time to process those life challenges that they have left unresolved for most of their lives while walking with each of them every step of the way.
Tune in as she shares with us her journey of really pushing past the hurdles and internal blockage that can hold us back and hinder us from growth. She shows us how we can get healed, be open to real change by God and gain true sisterhood.

A Special Note From Jaz

Ms. Cheryle you always continue to pour into and inspire to be great, just LIVE and most importantly trust God. I thank you for being there for me in times of need and just sharing some of your personal pitfalls and hurdles you’ve overcome. You are great and impart so much wisdom and strength. I am thankful to know you.

What is the challenge you faced before God pressed the reset button?

What obstacle did you overcome/testimony? What was the pivotal moment in your life thus far that changed everything?

She faced a host of challenges, from not knowing her self-worth/value, who God created her to be, her purpose and the challenges/obstacles God allowed her to go through that although she did not understand at the time, God was preparing her for walking in her purpose.  She dealt with mental health issues, domestic violence, being a victim of her sexuality, not believing the positive things people said about her, and thinking that this was going to be her life and that it would not be anything beyond what it was in that very moment.

If she had to choose one obstacle to discuss she would choose her mental breakdown because it was the impact of everything else. She felt like her life was over. Mental health recovery helped to make everything else better. She ran for two years for her life and that landed her in a mental institution. She had an abusive husband, her mother died and she was not with her children at the time so her mind could not handle the pressure.

Her journey of mental health has set her free from a lot of things that held her hostage. We tell ourselves distorted things and visions about ourselves, which are untrue, and she realized that being mentally heathly is what combats that.

How has that shown you the path God has prepared for your life? Steps along your journey.

Her relationship with God showed her the truth about the lies that she believed. His word showed her who she was in Him and who He created her to be. He helped her know that she never, under any circumstance, disqualified from recieving the love that He had died for her to have. He used all the things that she had been through as a preparation or a teaching, molding for what He had called her to do. God showed her that she was worthy through Christ to receive everything He referred to in His word and that she was the whosoever He referred to in the scriptures. Because God is not a respecter of person if He said it to one person it applies to all persons. You just have to believe that it was you that He was telling it to. You have to BELIEVE that the word of God is applicable to us and our lives and He was telling us what He had to say to other people in the scriptures. What He had to say to us, His love, care,

Because God is not a respecter of person if He said it to one person it applies to all persons. You just have to believe that it was you that He was telling it to. You have to BELIEVE that the word of God is applicable to us and our lives and He was telling us what He had to say to other people in the scriptures. What He had to say to us, His love, care, and purpose for each of us. Being on the journey of mental health recovery has helped her to see herself through the eyes of God and helped her to receive what God said about her more than receiving what others or even herself said about her.

She has always been a confidant, strangers, etc. people would just share things with her and she would listen and help them to love themselves in the midst of whatever they had endured. She started to see a pattern when others said, “you need to put that in a book!” She was working as a paralegal and felt that her time there was over. She was just being her, and in being herself she was being an instrument for God, helping others to see their value and worth. “You have to go through Christ to get to the better life.” God was healing her and she was healed and whole. They wanted her to share her story because they saw something in her life that they[other women] thought could be possible for their lives. The day came where she remodeled the first floor of her home, then she began to write. Small bits and pieces. She started to share along the way and she was

The day came where she remodeled the first floor of her home, then she began to write. Small bits and pieces. She started to share along the way and she was receiving encouragement to keep it going. Then she got stuck and hired a business coach. She made a strategic plan with her business coach and there was nothing left to do but write the book. She booked a hotel for 3 days and 2 nights and almost finished. She had the final chapter left and finished later. She took a flash drive to Staples and printed it so when the went to church the following day she held it up and said, “my book is finished!”

Can you share your favorite scripture?

Proverbs 3:5-6 [NKJV]

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Philippians 4:13

13 “I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me.

“We have go to tap into God! Until we realize that we will keep hitting these brick walls because we are trying to do it in our own strength and ability when it is supposed to be done through Christ and His strength and ability.”

What do you do daily to let your light shine?

“Be myself. BE ME! I don’t have to change hats. I’ve learned to be true to myself bceause I learned who I was in Christ and I like who He has created me to be, so I just be me! I don’t care if I’m with the president of the United states, whoever. I’m going to be Cheryle T. Ricks no matter where I am or who I’m with because I have to be comfortable being me. Being who God created me to be. I be me and I let other people be there. We want to know that we are enough. Being us is enough! My light shines when I be me and I let others be who they are.”

Name (3) things that you would tell your younger self?

  1. Get to God quick!
  2. Enjoy the journey and the evolutions of YOU! Embrace the you, you are your whole life.
  3. God first, then you, then other people.

Why do you love you some you? What makes you extraordinary?

“What makes me extraordinary is that I know I’m the only me there will ever be! Because I’m the only me that will ever be, each person that experiences me must know that they are experiencing something that they will never experience again unless I am there for the experience to take place. I love me some me because I learned to love myself first before asking anybody else to love me. If I can love myself I can show other people how to love me too!”

10 Seconds of Motivation

“Love is a beautiful thing but it can only be experienced if you are in a vessel that can receive it. Don’t be afraid to receive love from the right people that God places in your life. Don’t be afraid to take those steps on the journey of life that will lead you to the places that you want to be. Make sure that you surround yourself with people that God has placed in your life so that you will be able to get from them the things that you need on your journey and they will be able to get what they need for theirs. Make sure that you keep God first, you second,  and others third. And you will be able to live life on a grander scale with more joy, more peace, and more happiness.”
